Hostage Situation

Screen Print and Monotype Series 11”x17”

2022

  • This series was a personal project for me regarding my recently failed engagement. Shortly after I got engaged to my now ex-fiancee he began being psychologically abusive and taking advantage of my kindness. This piece represented how I was feeling in the middle of the relationship and my relief when I was able to successfully leave the situation that I was in.

Anxiety Blurs

Monotype Prints 8”x12”

2021

  • Anxiety Blurs is a series of monoprints based off of contour drawings of things I am grateful for. My intention with the piece was to attempt to capture the dissociation that comes along with anxiety and depression. I did the contour drawings in order to capture the feeling of barely understanding an object that once had a specific meaning to you, that in times of turmoil becomes a chaotic image. When printing I also chose to keep colors from the previous prints on the page to further the feeling of dissociation. To symbolise the feeling of life becoming a blur. One of the biggest discoveries I had with this project was that when I did the contour drawings of things that give me peace I was able to have a clearer image as opposed to those objects that aren’t necessarily bad but don’t have the same aura of tranquility around them.

Suddenly Gone

Black and White Pinhole Series 3”x4”

2022

  • When introduced to pinhole cameras I became very interested in the voyeuristic aspects of a camera that could appear as anything. My home had recently flooded so I set out to utilize these properties and to confront my current situation. This quickly evolved into me documenting the chaos that resulted from this burst pipe in my home. I chose to print both the negatives and the positives in this piece to ham-handedly try to place a silver lining on my difficult situation. I felt that the mirroring aspect that the pinhole camera also has helped to enhance this concept as well. Although it was not intended I feel as though when lined up this photo series mimics the visual qualities of an inkblot test which has some unintended but happy results within the images themselves.
